I am a germaphobe. There, now you know me a little bit better than before. Lying in bed in clothes that you’ve worn on public transport gives me the shivers. I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer on my desk at work and wipe down my workstation with a Lysol wipe at least twice a week, even though I’m the only one who uses it.
But while I’ve long feared catching a rogue illness, I didn’t ever give much thought to what detrimental ingredients could be lurking in my beauty products.
I won’t give you a laundry list of why you should dump your conventional makeup and skincare (and, for the record, I’m still not totally convinced on why I need natural haircare). If making a more natural routine is something you’ve considered, do your research. I rate the Think Dirty app and EWG Skin Deep Cosmetics Database as two places that are helpful in learning what’s in your products and why they’re not so great.
I’m just a girl here, showing you my new streamlined makeup collection. That happens to be mostly natural. I’ve also really liked working out of a smaller collection of makeup as opposed to my drawers upon drawers of products.
Be forewarned, there’s a lot of Pacifica because everything from Pacifica is natural, relatively inexpensive, and I can find it at Target.
Pacifica CC Cream: Uber light coverage but evens out nicely and has SPF.
Neutrogena Shine Control Powder: I can’t find anything on databases on how this product rates, but it’s barely been used and the CC cream makes me shiny, so I figure a little powder won’t kill me.
BareMinerals Original Loose Powder Foundation: For when I want a bit more coverage. I find this can be a bit of a faff and I have to really let my moisturizer sink in or I risk a one-way ticket to Streak City.
This random BareMinerals blush trio: BareMinerals is generally “safe,” so I use this limited edition blush set. Same goes for this eyeshadow trio.
Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer: Again, I couldn’t find this on the Think Dirty app but other Physicians Formula powder products seemed to check out well, so I risked it. Also it was an excuse for me to buy this cult favorite product and yes, I can confirm it smells like vacation.
Glossier Haloscope in Quartz: Yet again, no rating available but other Glossier products were rated well, so I kept it in my collection. This isn’t my favorite highlighter, but it does for daytime.
Pacifica Stellar Gaze mascara: Quite natural but very lengthening and good if I’m not trying to be OTT. Which, most days, I’m not.
Pacifica Devocean lipstick in Firebird: Ya girl cannot LIVE without a red lipstick. Honestly, I’m quite struggling without a liquid liner in my collection and I think I’m going to need to get a natural one ASAP. This is a quite creamy formula that doesn’t last too well on the lips, but it gets the job done for now.
Pacifica Enlightened Gloss in Beach Kiss: Pretty standard pinky shimmery gloss. It’s nice.
BareMinerals Lasting Line eyeliner pencil: Never did I think I was one for a gray eyeliner, but this one has been doing the trick. Lasts well, too, as the name would suggest.
